I am Assistant Professor of Sociology at St. Lawrence University, where I engage policy analysis, research, and teaching on environmental and food justice. I hold a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Sociology from the University of Michigan.
I grew up in rural New Hampshire and am heavily influenced by place and relations between the environment and human experience. Since childhood, I have been active in nonviolent social justice organizing, building on my own experiences with social privilege against ancestral oppression and resistance, including during the Holocaust and as refugees from communist Hungary to the United States. My path has also brought me into support for first generation communities, survivors of sexual violence, and groups impacted by addiction, and I pull constructively from this to uplift students and engage in research, consulting, and service at the intersection of the environment and health equity, as well.
